Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday issued notices to Vinod Rai, who heads the BCCI panel of administrators and the governing panel on the plea submitted by cricketer Sreesanth.
Sreesanth had approached the court seeking permission to play in Scottish cricket lleague.
The court has also asked the BCCI to inform its stance on Sreesanth’s request to revoke his ban. The next hearing on the plea will be held on June 19.
However, the BCCI had earlier told the Kerala High Court that the ban imposed on the pacer in connection with the IPL spot-fixing case cannot be lifted.
BCCI CEO Rahul Johri made the stance clear while responding to the review petition filed by Sreesanth.
The previous governing body had taken a decision against lifting his ban and at the present situation does not warrant such an action, the BCCI noted.
The BCCI had arrived at this decision at a meeting involving Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) office-bearers and former KCA president and BCCI office-bearer T C Mathew. In this regard, Rahul Johri has sent an official letter to Sreesanth too.
Sreesanth had earlier approached the BCCI seeking permission to play in the Scottish cricket league. However, BCCI had denied him the NOC.
After this, the BCCI underwent an administrative overhaul and a committee headed by Vinod Rai assumed office. Optimistically, Sreesanth had submitted a review petition.
The speedster was arrested on charges of alleged spot fixing while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 Indian Premier League.
Soon after his arrest, the Board of Cricket for Control in India's (BCCI) disciplinary committee came down heavily on Sreesanth, slapping a life ban on him along with others involved in the spot fixing.
In 2015, Delhi court exonerated him and two other players in the case registered by the Delhi Police.
