Kochi: Playback singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi has achieved a rare feat, securing a twin record by playing the maximum number of songs in the shortest time on a single string musical instrument.
She played various songs on the Gayathri veena continuously for over five hours and secured a place in Asian Book of Records as well as in India Book of Records.
The awards were handed over to the singer at a function held at Ernakulam Press Club on Wednesday by Asia Book of Records South India chief Vivek Raja.
Music director Anand Krishna, who co-ordinated the event, was also chosen for the awards.
Apart from this, World Record University, the UK, has decided to award Doctorate for Vijayalakshmi. The procedures for this will be completed in six months.
“It is a miracle. I feel extremely happy. All happened just because of God's blessings,” she said.
The musician, who is visually impaired, broke the record by playing a total of 69 songs on the instrument during a programme in March.
