Actresses Namrata and Shilpa Shirodkar's grandmother Meenakshi Shirodkar was the first Marathi actress to wear a swimsuit onscreen.
In the song 'Yamuna jali khelu khel' from the 1938 film 'Brahmachari', Meenakshi is seen trying to seduce Master Vinayak by singing and swimming in a pool.
The plot of the film revolves around a young man Audumbar who happens to hear a lecture about the importance of discipline and celibacy. He renounces his sexual desires and joins an ashram of Acharya Chandiram.But at the institute, he comes across Kishori, a young woman and all his vows of celibacy are tested.
