AIADMK functionaries hold yagna to make Jayalalithaa PM
MADURAI: AIADMK men in Madurai led by state cooperatives minister Sellur K Raju held special poojas in several temples on Saturday seeking the almighty's intervention to make chief minister J Jayalalithaa as the next Prime Minister.
The poojas come a day after a record blood donation camp was organised across the state by transport minister Senthil Balaji as part of the birthday celebrations of Jayalalithaa that falls on February 24.
As AIADMK functionaries vie with each other to display their loyalty to Jayalalithaa, the poojas appear to be only a beginning of such rituals to seek the attention of the party supremo.
While Sellur K Raju presided over the special pooja performed at Koodalalagar Perumal kovil in Tallakulam, Mayor V V Rajan Chellappa took the mantle at Poonga Vinayagar Kovil at Tamukkam. Similar poojas were held at Immayil Nanmai Tharuvar Kovil at Melamasi Street. The entire battery of AIADMK functionaries from MLAs to councillors were present at the poojas offering prayers. "We prayed for a long and healthy life for Amma and for her to become the prime minister after the coming Lok sabha elections,'' said an AIADMK functionary. The poojas were organised by the urban district AIADMK to mark Jayalalithaa's birth star Magam.
The party functionaries also arranged for annadhanam to all devotees visiting the temple the whole day. Sellur Raju himself commenced the feast by distributing prasadam to the devotees and AIADMK men. At Poonga Vinayagar Kovil, Rajan Chellappa distributed prasadam.
In Nagapattinam district, similar poojas were performed at Amirthakdeswarar Temple at Thirukadayur. The poojas seem to mark the beginning of similar rituals being emulated in the coming days. In fact, this is not the first time that AIADMK men are organising poojas for the "well being" Jayalalithaa.
AIADMK men say that they have planned even bigger poojas and yagnas on the birthday of jayalallithaa on February 24 across the state.
