Circle Style Kabaddi in a new avatar - World-wide Kabaddi League

The 20th century BC game Kabaddi is one of the most ancient contact sports of the Indian sub-continent. The most popular anecdote that is linked to Kabaddi is the style that Abhimanyu used to break through the Chakravyuh during the Mahabharata battle. Kabaddi has evolved over a period of time and is now being played in three different styles namely Rectangular, Circle & Beach style Kabaddi. In the Punjab region of the Indian sub-continent the circle style Kabaddi format is the most popular format and the recent World Kabaddi Cup held in India was based on the circle style format where 13 countries had participated.

After successfully executing four editions of circle style World Kabaddi Cup in Punjab, Circle style Kabaddi is up for a major facelift under the mentorship of Shri Sukhbir Singh Badal, Dy CM Punjab & Shri Pargat Singh, Olympian and sports administrator. The soon to be launched World-wide Kabaddi League will be played across 4 continents and will be the only international sports league to come out of India. Worldwide Kabaddi League will be presented to its fans in a new avatar and will innovate by adding more action oriented elements to this maiden Indian contact sports thereby making it television friendly. There are approx. 200 circle style Kabaddi clubs that are already operational across the world.

This traditional Indian sports that is being an integral part of our cultural heritage will be the first such international league that will bring together the best of the circle style Kabaddi talent from across the world. This will be having participations from various clubs operating in Europe, US, Canada, Pakistan, & Australia. Several top bollywood personalities, International investors and corporates have shown interest in participating as franchise owners for the upcoming league. Each season of the league will be spread across a period of 6 months and will be played in 4 continents.

WWKL has roped in Raman Raheja as the CEO. Raman was previously with Wizcraft as Business Head- Govts Alliances & Vice President- Events with Fever Entertainment a division of HT Media. He has produced the opening & closing ceremony for the 19th Commonwealth games in Delhi. He has also produced two edition of Kabaddi world cup for Govt. of Punjab.
