Figo, Cannavaro, Vieira join Ronaldo, Zidane charity match for Yolanda victims

With two weeks left before the 11th Match Against Poverty kicks off for the benefit of super typhoon Yolanda victims, football legends Luis Figo, Fabio Cannavaro, and Patrick Vieira have confirmed their participation in the charity match headlined by Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane.

Luis Figo was Ronaldo and Zidane's teammate back in Real Madrid, together with David Beckham, during the Spanish giant's Galácticos era. The Portuguese international also captained his side to a fourth place finish in the 2006 World Cup.

"I am making an appeal to the public to come to the Stade de Suisse,” said the 2000 Ballon D’or winner and the 2001 FIFA World Player of the Year through a FIFA press release. "I would be delighted to see the stands full of people so we could celebrate football together in the fight against poverty. Let's help the Philippines."

Fabio Cannavaro, who played in last year's Clear Dream Match 2, was Italy's captain when they beat Zidane and his French side to win the 2006 World Cup.

“Unfortunately, natural disasters affect us every year. The fight against poverty must be constant and I'm very happy if I can contribute to it through football," said the 2006 World Cup and FIFA World Player of the Year.

Patrick Vieira was part of the much-celebrated "Invincibles," the Arsenal squad that finished the 2003-2004 Premiere League season undefeated.

“I am very excited about this game. Football speaks a universal language and we need to take advantage of this to appeal for the reconstruction of the Philippines,” said the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2000 winner.

In total, these players are confirmed to be part of the Ronaldo, Zidane & Friends team, which will face the Young Boys & Friends team.
