Sandalwood theft at IISc: Police question security guards

Sadashivanagar police, probing the sandalwood theft at the IISc, on Monday, questioned the security guards posted at IISc on the night of the theft.

BENGALURU: Sadashivanagar police, probing Saturday’s sandalwood theft at the Indian Institute of Science, on Monday questioned the security guards posted at IISc on the night of the theft.
Bibuthi Nayak and Koushik Sial were allegedly beaten up and tied up by a gang of four on Saturday night.

Police said, “We have started the investigation based on the statement given by the security guards who were beaten up by a gang of four armed men. One of the suspects has been questioned the case and we are yet to find any leads. We also know if it was an insider’s role in the case.”

A senior officer said, “We have not found any CCTV footage about the movements of the accused and it will take few more days to nab them. We are busy making security arrangements for Republic Day and it is too early to say anything about the investigation.”

Speaking to Express, M R Chandrashekar, Senior Security officer of IISc said a special committee was formed a few months ago to send several recommendations to the government to strengthen the security arrangements at the premises.

A proposal was also sent to deploy Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) at the IISc, he added. “We are coordinating with the police over the incident and the security guards,” Chandrashekar added.
