AGRA: Police have detained eight men in connection with the alleged
robbery and torture of two women at the farmhouse of a
former DIG on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
In the incident, which had taken place in Jikarpur of Tappal police station, a gang of six men had allegedly tortured two women at the farmhouse and later attacked a double-decker bus on the Yamuna expressway nearby, making away with cash after shooting and injuring two passengers.
Sujeet Pandey, inspector general of police, Agra zone, said, “We got some solid lead in the case and expect to crack the case in next 48 hours. We have deployed 16 cops of Mathura, Aligarh and Agra zone crime branch.”
He said, “Total eight men from two different locations have been detained and are being questioned. We are also looking at the possible involvement of bus driver and conductor, as it’s very unusual coincidence that the bus came to halt at round same time near DIG’s farm house (less than 500 meters away), when the gang of six men had left after failing to retrieve Rs 50 lakh cash from farmhouse.”
According to police, the gang of six men had brutally assaulted the women and even burnt one of the victims' thigh with cigarette butt.
The police are tracing mobile numbers which were present during the period between Saturday 11pm to Sunday 2:30am near DIG residence. According to source, “If there was any mobile number active in the area during that particular period when the gang was present at DIG residence, than we can narrow down our investigation to certain number of suspects.”
Meanwhile, police have filed an FIR against unknown men under IPC sections 395 (dacoity) and 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) against the unidentified miscreants and six men have been detained for questioning.
