Bayern Munich's Arturo Vidal: I need 'a break' to recover in time for Arsenal

Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal says he "feels bad" and "must take a break" if he is to have any chance of playing in the Champions League against Arsenal next month.

Vidal, 29, initially suffered a rib injury during Bayern's 2017 Telekom Cup success during their winter break on Jan. 14.

But the Chile international was passed fit to play in the Bundesliga champions' first competitive game of 2017 against Freiburg on Friday, despite missing most of last week's training due to injury.

Vidal, however, aggravated his rib problem in Bayern's 2-1 win and was replaced by Germany international Joshua Kimmich 10 minutes after the interval.

"I feel bad," Vidal told tz. "I've got severe pain in the ribs. I can't play like this and must take a break now.

"Anyway, I've already missed a week's training. Now it looks like I'll need at least a further two or three weeks' break."

Bayern play Arsenal on Feb. 15 in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie at the Allianz Arena.

"Only by doing this can I completely recover," Vidal added. "Then we will see how I feel for the Champions League game."
