New Sherlock video proves that explosion was NOT CGI

From Digital Spy

Sherlock sceptics, prepare to have your minds blown - *that* series finale explosion was definitely not the work of CGI.

In series 4's 'The Final Problem', one especially nail-biting scene saw Sherlock Holmes, John Watson and Mycroft Holmes make a mad break for it after a patience grenade flew into 221b Baker Street on a drone, courtesy of his crazy sister Eurus.

When the episode first aired, some fans suspected the stunning 'jump through the window while everything explodes in the background' scene was the work of CGI, but special effects supervisor Danny Hargreaves has gone on the record to prove this wasn't the case.

In fact, the stunt looks even more terrifying than it did on-screen.

"If you thought the #221b explosion was CGI, think again," said Hargreaves on Twitter, alongside a 20-second-video documenting the on-set explosion.

The video shows two stuntmen throwing themselves from a rigged-up building, surrounded by an intimidating amount of fire.

The explosion is initially triggered after the men jump from the window and shows that they don't have much to crush the impact of their landing other than a stack of cardboard boxes. Yikes.

And this certainly isn't the only social media reaction by Sherlock's cast and crew surrounding the series finale.

Actress Louise Brealey slammed critics who complained about the use of Molly in the series finale, before setting things straight and apologising in a lengthy Twitter post.

And then there was director Ben Caron's hilarious video of Cumberbatch tap-dancing his way around set.

Phew. Bring on series five, we say.
