New Zealand vs Bangladesh 2nd Test: Kiwis complete series sweep after Bangladesh collapse

Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme guided New Zealand to a series-sweeping nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second test in Christchurch on Monday after the visitors suffered another second-innings collapse on the fourth day.

Latham (41) and de Grandhomme (33) took their side through to 111 for one at Hagley Oval after umpires extended play by an extra 30 minutes because a result was within sight.

Jeet Raval (33) was the only casualty when he chopped on Kamrul Islam for the second time in the match, leaving de Grandhomme to power the Black Caps home with a 14-ball cameo studded with a quartet of sixes.

After building a 65-run first innings lead on the basis of Henry Nicholls’ coming within two runs of a maiden Test century, man-of-the match Tim Southee became the fifth Black Cap to take 200 wickets and Neil Wagner took out the frustrations associated with being run out in unusual circumstances to render Sunday’s washout irrelevant.

Taskin Ahmed (33) and Kamrul(25 not out) provided some late resistance with a 51-run ninth-wicket partnership to ensure New Zealand would need to chase in excess of 100.

Tim Southee had earlier achieved a personal milestone when he had Shakib Al Hasan caught by de Grandhomme at backward point for eight to bring up 200 test match wickets. Southee is the fifth New Zealander to achieve the mark and is behind Richard Hadlee (431), Daniel Vettori (361), Chris Martin (233) and Chris Cairns (218) on the country’s all-time list.
