KOLKATA: Four Sunderbans tigers are likely to be radio-collared this week. Chief wildlife warden
Pradeep Vyas said they have plans to radio collar big cats in both the South 24-Parganas
Forest Division and the
Sunderbans Tiger Reserve (STR) area.
"This exercise is part of a study currently being done on home range and territory of the
swamp tigers. We have plans to radio collar four big cats," he added. Scientists of Dehradun-based
Wildlife Institute of India will carry out the exercise.
Last January, a big cat was radio-collared in the mangroves. A source said the collar functioned very well and gave "useful" data on its movement. TOI had earlier reported that the forest department had got clearance to radio collar a total ten Sunderbans tigers. tnn
