Bengaluru's women train to fight molesters

The event witnessed over 200 women from various walks of life.

Bengaluru: In the wake of recent incidents in the city concerning women’s safety, fitness expert Grand Master Akshar, Founder of Akshar Yoga, has come forward to conduct a self defence workshop on useful tips and tricks for self defence and instill a sense of confidence to deal with such attacks.

The workshop was conducted at Cubbon Park on Sunday under the guidance of various martial arts trainers associated with Akshar Yoga to gear up the participants both physically and mentally. The event witnessed over 200 women from various walks of life.

"It was a learning experience for me; this is my third self defence workshop. I am confident to take care of myself and if someone tries to mess with me, I know how to deal with the molester," said Shwetha Somashekar, an IT professional in the city who attended the workshop.

Talking about the workshop, Grand Master Akshar, said, "The concept of the workshop is to bring in a level of preparedness and accumulate a sense of self-defence. We have witnessed a series of attacks on women in the past few months across India. Such workshops on self-defence will go a long way to help them become more confident and stronger."

Equality of men and women in all aspects, both mental and physical must be asserted and we are preparing ourselves with techniques inherited from ancient Himalayan Martial arts such that a woman's gentle nature may never be misunderstood again, he said.
