Pullman – a new pearl of the Orient

With its 288 guest rooms and suites, including luxury bedding and stylish, uncluttered bathrooms, the teams fully intend to highlight their mastery of the Feel Welcome spirit.

For a number of years now, the Grand Mercure Shanghai Central has been a major establishment, nestled in the heart of the city’s most reputable business district. The hotel has been given a complete rethink in 2016 in order to capitalize on this location whilst offering its guests a totally new experience. A change that has had an impact not just on its esthetic aspect but on the hotel’s personality too, as it is now under the stewardship of a different brand within the Group… so let’s welcome the Pullman Shanghai Jing An.

12 months, that’s how long it’s taken to rennovate the entire Grand Mercure Shanghai Central.

This establishment which has now become the Pullman Shanghai Jing An, is a perfect combination of modernity, design and vitality. With its 288 guest rooms and suites, including luxury bedding and stylish, uncluttered bathrooms, the teams fully intend to highlight their mastery of the Feel Welcome spirit.

Multiple premium services
Special venues have been created to attract loyal business guests of this former Grand Mercure property. Several rooms have in fact been designed to host meetings, private events and team building activities, with a capacity for up to 350 people.

Having taken advantage of everything Shanghai has to offer, guests can then also delight their taste buds by going to one of the two new restaurants at the establishment. A choice between the Venu and its international buffet or the Hua Fu Ming Jia and its authentic Chinese cuisine takes guests on a true culinary journey.

Lastly, the fitness room, swimming pool and yoga studio are now open so that everyone can find what they’re looking for to enjoy themselves and relax after a busy day.

“It’s an unusual experience to open a new hotel which already has over 26 years of history and a solid reputation in the market place. The makeover from Grand Mercure to Pullman took a year, and the result provides discerning business travellers with a welcome sanctuary amidst the hustle and bustle of metropolitan Shanghai”. Thibaud Geffroy, General Manager, Pullman Shanghai Jing An.

An exclusive cultural experience
As art is one of the mainstays of the Pullman brand, the establishment wanted to set up an exhibition entirely devoted to this “opening”.

In order to render this one-of-a-kind place, the Chinese artist Qin Ming has exhibited compositions there that he painted using the Gong Bi technique for the first time. This Chinese practice consists of a meticulous style of painting featuring fine line work on paper or silk and provides an illustration of China’s culture. Entitled “The Great Spiritual Pullman”, this retrospective will close at the end of next February.

“If you are visiting Shanghai, take a look at the hotel’s contemporary ambiance with classic touches. Also experience the latest Artist Playground in Greater China, successfully launched with ‘The Great Spiritual Pullman’ series of paintings specially created for the hotel. The artist successfully blends modern Gong Bi techniques with traditional styles to create vivid images that perfectly represent the connection of Pullman’s brand spirit with the distinctive local culture of the world’s most exciting and vibrant cities”. Thibaud Geffroy, General Manager, Pullman Shanghai Jing An.
