Thiruvalluvar statue on banks of Ganga soon: BJP leader

Ever since the installation of Thiruvalluvar statue at Ulsoor in Bengaluru, Thiruvalluvar Day is celebrated by Tamil Sangam.

BENGALURU: BJP leader and former MP Tarun Vijay has said that a statue of Thiruvalluvar was being built on the banks of river Ganga and it will be inaugurated by March or April.

During his address at the 8th Thiruvalluvar Day organised by Bengaluru Tamil Sangam on Sunday, Mr Vijay chose to speak in Tamil. He said, “Thiruvalluvar was a great saint. His contribution to the world is immense. His teachings have to be taken to a larger audience.”

“We will work towards making the teachings of the great saint as part of college curriculum in North India,” he added.

Ever since the installation of Thiruvalluvar statue at Ulsoor in Bengaluru, Thiruvalluvar Day is celebrated by Tamil Sangam.

As part of Sunday’s celebration, procession of Thiruvalluvar statue was taken from Ulsoor Lake along Dickenson Road, Commercial Street, Kamaraj Road, Shivashetty Garden and Annaswamy Mudaliar Road.

Traditional dancers from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu performed as part of the procession. “Kannadigas and Tamils are brothers. We are living in harmony and events like Thiruvalluvar day is observed to strengthen the bond between us.” said Ramachandran N., executive member of Bengaluru Tamil Sangam.
