2. • Wedecidedtogather up audiencefeedback about ourproduct overan
online survey. This is because our primary audience are digital natives,
so the use of social networks and otheronline websites are easy to
access through their convergeddevices e.g.Mobile phone,
laptops/computers etc.
• Through this, wedecided to ask a maximum of 10 questions, all
regarding specific areas or opinions of ourproduction –with the
addition of an 11th question stating if they would watch it again in the
future.
• Wesent this to middle class, British (white) heterosexual, both males
and females, between the ages of 15-24 and 25-35.

• By using this we will beable to seeif both ourprimary and
secondary audience like ourproduction or notand why?
5. Q.3 –Did you understand what was happening in the opening sequence? was it
confusing or simple to understand?
• Despitetheone wordedanswers,
this questionwas aboutthe

• Theseanswershelp toshowthat
we weresuccessful in creating a

narrativeforthis production.
Female 25-34
Theopening sequence is interesting, but not confusing.
Until the end of theclip it is not clear who or what the
girl is runningfrom, keeping theviewer in suspense.
Male 25-34 Simple to understand
Male 15-24 Yes, i thought it was simple to understand
Male 25-34 Simple
Female 15-24 Simple enough
Female 15-24 I fullyunderstood it, it was simple to understand
Female 15-24 Simple
Female 15-24 Understand
6. Q.4– What grabbed your attention the most? this can bea good or bad element.
Female 25-34
I thoughtthetensionwaskeptthroughthewhole sequence.Thebloodon themap,theknifeetc.
mademe wonderwhathadhappenedbeforethegirlgottothetent.
Male 15-24 Thedarknessgrabbedmyattention

male 15-24 Thedarknessandthegirlsdistress.
Female 15-24 Openingofthetent-senseofanticipation
Female 15-24 Thetrailofblood
Female 15-24 Thelightingandambience wasspookyyet intriguing.
Female 25-34 Quickcutsinthebeginning
The fact that there area range of
answers from the breathing to
the “darkness” suggests that we
successfully managed to grab
both audiences attention
through a range of factors rather
than just the fast paced scene at
the beginning.
• By giving the audience achoice tochoose what grabbedtheir individual attentions meant that we areable tose what was appreciated and
what worked out ofwhat was shown. Furthermore, by letting them choose a goodorbad ‘element’, this gaveus the opportunity tosee
whether there were any mistakes, orobjects that could have accidently received their attention. Thiswould let us know any improvements
that could be made in the future.
• Ourtarget audience (15-24) mainly picked out the moresimpler iconographies, such as the darkness, blood orthe pops, where as he older
audience managed topick out the morein-depth elements, such as the camera techniques, the audio andthe rowingsense ofanticipation
made with the props, crating questions andfulfilling the intellectual audience pleasure, which was what we were aiming towardsmost.
7. Q.5 - What is your opinion on our camera work? do you thinkwe filmed it well?
if not, then how could it be improved?
• I think this was filmed verywell, the cameraworkseems verysmooth even
thought this sequence must have been filmedon veryunevenground,
especially whenthe girl is running.I like the cutting as well.
• Verynice camerawork. I liked how the camerawould pan across the
screen
• I think it was filmed well and kept thesuspense throughoutthe scene
• It was well filmed and appeared seamless. Thereis one part where thereis
a slight jump between shots which is a little clunky, and at times a little
dark which hides some of the detail, but it does add to the suspense.
• Done well
• YesIthink it was done well
• Camerawork was well done. Therewere different angles and techniques
used which help movealong thesequence.
• Filmedwell
• This response on our filming was very
positive, with the addition of one mistake of
being slightly “clunky”. We would make sure
tokeep ourfilming smooth andfluid in any
future products.
• By askingthis question, wewere able
to see that most of the 15-24target
audience didn't specify anyspecific or
anyopinions, but ratherwith a
simple short sentence. This
contradicts the more active older
audience who wereable to notice the
camerawork, the implications of the
location and the types of techniques
used.
8. Q.6 - Wasthe music/ audioin the sequence effectively used? why or why not?
• Themusic was subtle and creating tension without drowning out the sounds of
breathing / footsteps etc. Thesound of the tent being ripped open made me
jump -veryeffective!
• Could havehad a musical motif
• I likedthe music used as it added to the tension without being distracting and
takingaway from the action, and i thought the audio used was verygood.
• Yes, it added suspense and fear to the imageryas the music complemented the
scenes.
• Used well yeta different trackcould beused
• Themusic was effectively used -it helped to create a veryintense atmosphere
• Theyfocused on the girls breathing which added to the ambience of the shirt
film allowing the audience to feel the characters sense of fear and urgency
• Yes, it helps to build uptension
Theresponse to this question was verypositive as I had concerns that the scores wouldn’t havecreatedas muchtension
and suspense as it had according to these comments.
Most of these say that hey either
liked, enjoyedor was usedwell,
which suggests that a good score
must be inplace for a horror film
to besuccessful inthat area. One
comments on how another score
could have been used. I also agree
with this as after production, I
realise that repeating thesame
small clip might actual havethe
reverseeffect
9. Q.7 - Wasour use of lighting effective in creating anominous or mysterious
atmosphere? if not, then why?
• Yes, Iliked the use of light focusing on the girlandleaving the surroundings in the dark.
When the antagonist is revealed, the lighting is very effective, as his face is half in the dark,
this looks very mysterious.
• It was very effective andspooky
• Yeah i thought the darker lighting really added tothe ominous feeling andreally helped
create some tension.
• Yes but at time a little toodarkandcovered some ofthe detail. However Iparticularly liked
when the light reflected off ofthe eyes.
• Effective, yetmore shadows could have been used
• Yes it was
• The stark contrast between the darkbackground andthe light in the foregroundhelp add
tothe connotations ofdarkandmysterious happenings.
• Yes
Again, all feedback was positive, and seemed to havethecorrecteffect, which shows that the correctuseof lighting can be a
major ‘mood maker’ as well as its conventional for horrorfilms, makingit easier to be acknowledged.
As some comment on how it was
too dark, this could havebeen due
to our useof one single LED light
that was usedonsite. This could
havebeen improved if wehad
maybeused some soft boxes to
light up some of thesurrounding
area as noneof that was real
shown, so I do not think it was
obvious that it was filmedin the
woods, apart from the
connotations from the props.
10. Q.8 - Is there anything within our opening sequence that confuses you? or that
you are unsure about?
• I thought the sequencewas veryinteresting but not
confusing. I liked that there were hints of how the
story would unfold but it kept theviewer in
suspense.
• Unsureabout whyshe is runningorwhat she is
runningfrom
• Nope.
• Althoughthe fear is evident I am unsureas to what
she us tryingto achievebyrunningback to a tent
which offers no protection.
• No
• No
• Would like to knowwhat happens next as the shirt
film ends on a cliff hanger.
• Don't quite understand the pan usedin 1:05
Some questions were raised about the protagonists motives and
reasoning, techniquesand what would happen next?
Theprotagonist reasons for runningweren’t supposed to be
revealed, but the featuringof the antagonist was supposed to
answer this question, or at least give a hint that it was ‘Him’who
shewas runningfrom.
The‘Pan’ was used to show the protagonists P.O.V as she doesn’t
knowwhat's out there or what she’s hearing. This is also supposed
to connotethe earof the unknown,as footsteps can clearlybe
heard, however nothingcan be seen, furtheremphasising her
isolation.
Thethird question, of what would happen next? Was he whole
point of the production, as this question was exactlywhat we
wanted to beraised. This curiosity would then furtherdrive the
audience to watch next due to he climatic suspense and tension,
that is left on a cliff hangerwithout the audience knowingthe
result.
11. Q.9 - Do you have anyother comments you would liketo add?
• I really enjoyed watching this.
• The opening sequence is good I want to watch more
• Nope.
• The sound quality was very good and the build up of fear
is evident throughout the sequence. I was left wanting to
know more.
• No
•
• I really liked the different shots used as the girl was
running, the audience was able to see her struggles from
all angles which brought the audience closer to the
character.
• No
Thebenefit of asking for these extra
comments is so that they areable to
comment on anything, that the surveyhas
not covered or ask anyquestions relating.
12. Q.10 -Did you enjoywatching our production?
• Yes, it mademeverycurious about how
the story would go on.
• YesIdid
• Yeah, quite alot
• Yes, verymuchso.
• Yes
• Yes I thoroughly enjoyedit
• Yes
• Yes
All participants havesaid yesin regard to enjoyingthe production. This
means that we havesucceeded inattracting and engaging with the
audience thoughthis product.
Thedesired effect was accomplished verywell, as this suggests our
choice of audiencewas correct,as all havehad a fitting response
according to what wehad been targeting all this time. Itis clear from all
his evidence, that ourchoice in primaryaudience was right, as hey had
easily understood the narrativeand the characters. Thepositive
responses to the iconic props and the conventional use of lighting was
shows that following conventions of the horrorgenre is successful when
tryingto target mass marketaudiences.
Ourchoice in secondary audiencesalso is shown to be correct though the evidence provided, as they were
able to start questioning hermotives as well as the antagonists, meanwhile thinkingabout hecamera shots
and techniques. However, compared to h primaryaudience, I do not thinkthat the were able to connectwith
the protagonist due o he lackof personal identify, however I do thinkthat we were able to intrigueand cause
some curiosity as a result.
13. Q.11 -If you had the chance in the future, would you watch the rest of the film?
why? why not?
• Definitely - I want to know what happens next.
• Yes I would I want to know what happens to the girl
• Yeah because this scene was very intriguing and it
feels like there's a good story behind it.
• Yes, I want to know what happened and why. What
was the sequence if events that led to this happening.
• yes, to know what happens to the characters
• Yes I would because I am desperate to know if the girl
will get killed and the reason why the man wants to
kill her
• The short film was well shot, well made, and well
directed I would definitely like to see how the story
progresses.
• Yes, it has caught my attention
From theseresponses wecan see that we
havemanaged to attract and appeal to our
audience. Thisshows that theyhad
managed to gain some sort of connection
with our characterstrough personal
identity as well as havetheintellectual
pleasure of questioning as well as their
curiosity towards the end of the product.
By intriguingthe audience, through our use
of lighting, cameratechniquesand props,
all together, this suggests that our
production was a necessary success in
terms of the audience.
14. Wouldwe change our audiencebased onthis
