Unsegregated waste processing unit to be set up in Mathikere

A plant with the capacity of processing 10 tonnes of unsegregated waste will come up on a pilot basis near JP Park in Mathikere.

Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA Munirathna announced this during a demonstration programme at the Platinum City in Peenya. The plant will be set up by the Bengaluru-based Tesla Energy Private Limited with a patented technology from a US company. The company claimed that the garbage will be melted in a magnetic field chamber at a 350 degrees Celsius. The plant does not require any fuel and it does not emit any toxins. Also, the ceramic ash obtained at the end of the process can be used to make construction materials.

“I have spoken to BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad and he has promised land for the plant. The company will finish installation in 15 days and will bear the cost of the plant. The plant will process garbage from nearby areas on a pilot basis for six months,” Munirathna said.

Residents unhappy
Platinum City residents expressed unhappiness over the plant being set up on their premises without their knowledge. They said the company had not taken any permission neither from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) nor BBMP.

However, Bharat Sreenivas, director of the company, claimed they had taken permission from the builder. On KSPCB certification, he said they would obtain it before the actual demonstration.
