Changes in voters’ list unlikely

Changes in voters’ list unlikely
NASHIK: The civic administration has ruled out the possibility of change of address in the voters’ list.
“Out of the 600 complaints we have received regarding voters’ list, 300 to 350, ie, around 50%, are related to names being included in ‘prabhags’ other than that of the complainant. But, change in address is not possible at this juncture,” said civic chief Abhishek Krishna while briefing media persons on Friday.

He said that voters who changed their addresses had been given the opportunity to make changes in the list when it was published in September last year. The list was released even in 2015 but citizens did take efforts to make the changes.
“We have complaints about borders of prabhags. If an area has expanded, the jurisdiction of such prabhag gets altered. But such cases are very less. In cases where the area is the same but has been divided into two parts due to prabhag formation, we will change the address of voters. Such cases are very few. In other cases we cannot make any address change,” Krishna said.
Meanwhile, the election cell has received a couple of complaints regarding violation of code of conduct. They have sought explanations from the persons against whom the complaints were made.
