Indian Idol 9 episode review: Cricketer Virender Sehwag gets awe-struck with contestants' amazing singing talent!

Indian Idol season 9 is here and it has been an amazing journey until now. The show mostly was about auditions until now. However now, there has already started the race to reach the top 10 positions. The judges in today’s episode were as usual full of enthusiasm. Also apart from the usual judges of Indian Idol, Farah Khan, Sonu Nigam and Anu Malik came the ace Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag! The cricketer earlier in a show had confessed that he really likes singing and that he also used to sing on the pitch! So him being in the show was an odd on!

On the show he shared about his experiences on the cricket field relating it o music. He also sang with Sonu Nigam and compared him with the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. The contestants performed in duet versions. They gave power-packed performances giving a real tough competition to each other! Sonu Nigam was overwhelmed with the performances, so much so, that he even stood upon the desk infront of him and gave a standing ovation!

The contestants chose some of the tough songs to perform including Tere Bina from ‘Guru’, Kurbaan hua  from ‘Kurbaan’ and Pataka Guddi  from ‘Highway’, Laaga chunari me daag. We all know that these songs are the gems of Bollywood and performing them in a perfect manner is a big task and yet the contestants handled it like a boss! Also this episode had a consistent amount of usage of  the classical instrument Sitar which was a bliss to the ears. The song laaga chunari me daag had a mini sitar performance and it was indeed very soothing along with Tabla and Ghungroo. The contestants also showed healthy jugalbandi with the sargams and aalaps which a true music lover would not like to miss! The episode was actually very beautiful and with beautiful performances making it really tough for the judges to eliminate contestants. Sehwag shaked his leg with Anu Malik with bubbling excitement! The main highlight of the show was Sonu Nigam and Sehwag’s duet on ‘Chala Jaata Hoon’. It will be fun to see the upcoming episodes with contestants having refined singing ways now!
