A 38-year-old RTI activist was attacked by three goons on Monday near Shoppers Stop at Juhu Lane in Mumbai. Mohabbat Ali Ansari was fighting against the irregularities in proposed redevelopment in Juhu Azad Nagar society and had filed series of RTI query regarding the same matter.

"I was fighting against the illegal construction in a society due to which I was attacked by the builder's goons. I can identify all the attackers if I see them. My fight against the illegal construction of this builder will continue," said Ansari.

According to Juhu Police, Ansari, who is a resident of the same society, is by profession a teacher and gives tuition in the same locality.

"The reason for conflict is a writ petition in the Bombay High Court against alleged irregularities in the redevelopment, following which he was getting threats from members of the society who want the redevelopment," said an officer from Juhu police station.

ATTACK CAUGHT ON CCTV

There were two attacks on Ansari within 15 days but the second one was brutal and it was captured by a CCTV located on the road.

As seen in the footage, five people chased Ansari who was on a motorbike. He was pushed while he was riding after which he lost balance and collapsed. The accused are than seen manhandling Ansari using sharp object on the crowded Juhu road with nobody coming to his aid.

"Locals rushed to help Ansari, even as the accused trio fled from the spot in their car. Subsequently, he was taken to a hospital were he received around 45 stitches on his body," said a police official.

"Accused identified as Naseem Khan has been arrested in the case. He is related to the housing society which is under contention. A case against three people under section 307 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Also statements of eyewitnesses have been recorded," added the official.
