Visakhapatnam: Apparently upset over a failed relationship, a Class-VII girl student of a private school attempted suicide by self immolating herself at Islampeta under Duvvada Police Station limits on Thursday night. She died in the midnight on Friday.
Sub-inspector of pol-ice, G. Divakar, said the girl reportedly was in love with one K. Pydira-ju, resident of the same area and studying ITI.
The girl said to have taken the extreme step as Pydiraju spurned her love proposal. Police said the girl poured kerosene on her and set herself on fire on Thursday night.
The girl was admitted to KG Hospital in the city with around 80 per cent of burns and breathed her last while undergoing treatment.
The girl was the only daughter of her parents and her father works in a private firm in Dubai. Police has registered a case and is investigating. Sources said the police would question Pydiraju as the girl told the police that love failure was the only reason for her to take the extreme step.
