BENGALURU: To promote Indian traditional art forms in temples, an NGO Heritage is organising  “Gudiya Sambhrama...the Bengaluru Temple Festival 2017”.

The festival is in its seventh edition. The annual festival, which celebrates its seventh edition this year is Shrusti Rakshati Rakshita (If you protect the environment, environment will protect you).
Supriya Komandur, joint secretary of Heritage, says, “Every year, we have a theme for the festival like sacred earth, mountain and rivers. The performers include these concepts in their performances.” The theme of this year’s event will be sacred flowers. It will be organised in different temples across the city on weekends starting today.

She adds, “We collected a lot of information about sacred flowers and will display them on the standees in the temples. Saplings will be presented as momentos. Everything we present will be organic.”
Supriya says temples played a central role in the eco system of the society earlier.

“As temples are the places where youngsters also come, at least during the exam time, we would like to make use of the temple space and reach more people,” she says, adding that the performance will be held in the open air spaces for the devotees to sit and watch. Renowned actor and dancer Rukmini Vijayakumar will present a Bharatnataym piece. There will be performances by Veena artist Jayanthi Kumaresh, a duet carnatic vocal by Rithvik Raja and Prasanna. Supriya adds, “There will be a performance by Yakshakala Academy. It’s a troupe of young children performing Yakshagana.”

The presentation for the evening will begin with a special performance by an artist dedicated only to the main deity of the temple. “There will be no audience. It’s meant only for the temple deity,” she adds. Do not miss the performances in the temples near your residence.
The inauguration of “Gudiya Sambhrama... the Bengaluru Temple Festival 2017” will be held at 5.15 pm at Guddada Ramanjaneya Devasthana, Ramanjaneya Road.
