Trump says ‘the people became the rulers’ on Inauguration Day

You’re in charge now, Americans.

President Donald Trump thanked his cheering public during his inaugural address Friday — and said that now, it’s their aspirations that will direct Washington, and that this is the day “the people became the rulers of this nation.”

“We are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people,” Trump said in the first of many big applause lines in his speech.

“This moment is your moment. It belongs to you,” he said, to another wave of cheering.

“This is your day, this is your celebration. This, the United States of America, is your country. January 20th, 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation,” he said.

“The forgotten men and women of this country will be forgotten no longer,” he said.

“From now on,” he said, “all decisions of state — on trade, taxes, immigration, foreign affairs — will be made based on what is good for America, and Americans.

“From mountain to mountain, from ocean to ocean, hear these words. You will never be ignored again.”
