38-year-old arrested for 'raping' UKG girl

KOZHIKODE: The Koyilandy police, on Friday, arrested a 38-year-old man, on the charges of sexually assaulting a UKG student. The accused was identified by the police as K Shoukathali (38), hailing from Atholi.
The accused was a labourer at a hotel at Pookad and the man raped a five-year-old girl and injured her using a knife, said the police. The child, a student of a nursery school, was taken to a nearby compound by the hotel worker before assaulting her.
The police have charged the accused under section 376 of Indian Penal Code (Punishment for Rape) and under section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault).
