MISC holds naming and delivery ceremony for new LNG carrier

The 150 200 m³ vessel has been named Seri Cenderawasih, and is the second in a series of five MOSS-Type LNG carriers ordered from HHI by MISC. Once delivered, these vessels will be on a long-term charter to Petronas.

The vessel’s sister vessel, Seri Camellia was launched in September 2016. Both vessels will be part of the new generation of the Seri C Class LNG fleet of MOSS-Type vessels.

Encik Md Arif Mahmood, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, Downstream Business of Petronas, attended the ceremony, and said: “The delivery of Seri Cenderawasih augurs well for Petronas’ long partnership with MISC. The partnership with MISC has enabled Petronas to attain our aspirations and I am confident that the addition of Seri Cenderawasih to its fleet will strengthen MISC’s leadership position in the global LNG transportation business.”

The new generation of LNG carriers feature a number of state-of-the-art technologies, including the integrated hull structure (IHS) with four spherical tanks shielded by the continuous cover, which increases the hull’s overall structural strength.

These vessels also include energy efficiency, emissions reductions, biodiversity management and end-of-life disposal. These features also include the ozone ballast water treatment system, as well as the installation of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, which allows the diesel generator to comply with the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III requirement. The ships will be powered by an ultra stream turbine (UST) plant, and installed with pre-swirl duct and propeller boss cap fin (PBCF).

Following the ceremony, the vessel will commence its voyage to Bintulu, Malaysia.

This latest vessel has brought the number of LNG ships in MISC’s fleet to 27. The three remaining vessels currently being built in South Korea will be completed on a staggered basis.
