Anne Hathaway wreaks havoc in South Korea in the first trailer for monster movie Colossal.

How? You ask. Well, it turns out that her character Gloria has a psychic connection to a giant monster, which she discovers after a night of heavy drinking.

Just your usual night out, then.

The fun trailer shows Gloria working out this unusual connection, first testing it out by a simple raised hand and later making the city-destroying monster dance in order to show off to her friends, including Jason Sudeikis.

Hathaway is joined in Nacho Vigalondo's quirky sci-fi by Downton Abbey's Dan Stevens, who plays Gloria's ex-boyfriend, fighting to win back her affection.

Maybe he might want to schmooze the monster instead.

Talking to The Guardian last year, Hathaway explained how among all the monster smashing, Colossal is really about toxic masculinity.

"There has been a perversion of the beauty of male energy into this macho ideal that I don't think services anybody," she noted.

"In terms of my new movie, what our director was saying was that he thinks this energy really has no place in our world any more."

There's no word on a UK release date for Colossal yet, but it hits US cinemas on April 7.

Hathaway is currently shooting Ocean's Eight, the all-female reboot of the Ocean's franchise, and has also been reflecting on her Oscar win for Les Misérables.

"I felt very uncomfortable. I kind of lost my mind doing that movie and it hadn't come back yet. Then I had to stand up in front of people and feel something I don't feel which is uncomplicated happiness," she explained.
