Garoda-Garo caste to be known as Guru Brahmin in Gujarat

GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government has officially change the name of ‘Garoda Garo’ caste to Guru Brahmin. Accordingly, the Social Justice and Empowerment Department has decided to add Guru Brahmin to its list of Schedule Castes.
It may be mentioned that chief minister Vijay Rupani, on January 2, during the distribution of different benefits-assistance to beneficiaries of backward castes, announced to give identity of Guru Brahmin to Garoda-Garo caste.
Following this decision, in the certificate of Scheduled Caste individuals, there will be mention of Guru Brahmin in school leaving certificates. From now on, the department will consider Guru Brahmin as a synonym of Garoda Garo.
