Willikies, John Hughes drop crucial points in Second Division promotion race

Promotion hopefuls, John Hughes and Willikies both dropped crucial points in the Football Association’s Second Division after they were held to draws in competition on Wednesday.

Playing at home, John Hughes had to come from behind to salvage a 1-1 Draw with the visiting Bethesda team in their Zone B clash.

A victory would have seen John Hughes onto 24 points at the top of the standings but they now sit third with 22 points behind of leaders St John’s United and English Harbour in the number two position with 23 points. All three teams have played 11 matches.

Bethesda picked up only their ninth point of the competition, as they remain third from bottom in the 10-team standings after 11 matches also.

In Zone A, front-runners Willikies played to a scoreless draw against Bolans in Willikies.

They however, continue to lead the competition with 30 points, five points ahead of Blue Jays who have a game in hand. Bolans, following the draw, edges to 19 points and fifth overall.

Meanwhile, JSC Progressors dominated Garden Stars in their Zone A clash, winning 8-0 in Johnston’s.

Tommo Forrest led with a hat-trick while Marcelos Isidore scored twice. Bernard Augustin, Glyston Ghingore and Jefferson Richards all struck once in the huge victory.

Progressors move to 13 points and eighth in the 10-team standings while Garden Stars are ninth with just four points.

In the other match contest Wednesday, Sea View Farm defeated Pares 4-2 as they move to 19 points and sixth place while Pares are bottom of the standings with just one point.
