HTC Vive further boosting its virtual reality (VR) game: HTC to launch new games and mixed reality (MR) products

HTC is boosting its virtual reality (VR) game yet again. The company is reportedly set to release a handful of new VR games aside from its upcoming accessories: the previously announced Vive Tracker and the Taiwanese consumer electronics maker’s new wireless VR headphones.

The new VR games will be released at the Taipei Game Show 2017. The HTC Vive Tracker and the new wireless VR headphones, meanwhile, are set to go on sale by this year’s second quarter. The company is hoping the new games and accessories will boost sales of the HTC Vive VR headset.

Two of the VR games that HTC will release are developed by its internal studios Fantahorn and 2 Bears. According to Digitimes, HTC will also demonstrate a variety of games and mixed reality (MR) products at the event for fans to enjoy. The company launched the HTC Vive Tracker and the wireless VR headphones at Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2017).

The Vive Tracker’s price will be held by HTC until the official release date gets nearer. The wireless VR headphones, meanwhile, will have a US$249 (AU$329) price tag. While that price might be too high for most consumers, HTC is said to be focused on selling more Vive VR headsets than accessories,

Back in early December, HTC launched its own VR-developing unit called Vive Studios that intends to release games from both the company and external developers. The aforementioned 2 Bears Studio developed HTC’s first VR game, “Arcade Saga,” which is a collection of three mini games that consists of 84 levels. “Arcade Saga” is available on HTC’s Viveport store and Steam for US$29.99 (AU$39.99).

Vive Studios is considerably more far-reaching compared to Oculus Studios with its wide coverage of genres that include cinematic, design, sports and real estate. HTC also plans on developing more corporate and arcade business content.
