Police brutality: GSU officers poked my wife’s breasts with rungus- Kitui politician

Mbunza Mwangu Kiinda with his wife Esther

A 42-year-old Kitui County politician and his wife have lodged a complaint at the Industrial Area Police Station for being “clobbered mercilessly” by General Service Unit (GSU) officers along Mombasa Road on the evening of January 16.

Mbunza Mwangu Kiinda aka Mabadiliko, and his wife Esther Mutumwa, claim trouble began when their Toyota Probox was hit from behind by a GSU Land Cruiser as he drove towards the city centre.

“It was around Parkside Towers and I was driving on the inner lane when the Land Cruiser’s siren started wailing. As I contemplated my next move, the police driver hit my car from behind,” Kiinda told The Nairobian.

Within seconds, he claims, two GSU officers armed with rungus alighted and savagely attacked them without uttering a word.

Kiinda says the officers then boarded their Land Cruiser, registration number GK B720E, and sped off leaving them bleeding profusely from their mouths as a result of the injuries inflicted by the rungus.

“I was shocked because, they were not escorting anyone. Further, why beat my wife yet I was the one driving? What traumatised me more was that they poked her in the chest with rungus, knowing very well that a woman’s chest and breasts are very sensitive,” he said.

His wife says the attack happened so fast that before she knew it, she was bleeding from the mouth and her chest was aching because they hit her breasts with rungus.

In a report filed at the Industrial Area Police Station with reference number OB 70/16/01/2017, the couple say they suffered serious injuries in their mouths and chests.

“It is sad that people we entrust with our lives turn against us without any provocation. My pursuit for justice is not ours alone, but for others who have undergone similar ordeal at the hands of such rogue officers. The officers who did this must be brought to book,” Kiinda says.

Industrial Area OCS Amos Shamalla confirmed that the couple had filed a complaint at the station and that the matter was under investigation.

“An officer has been tasked to probe the matter, including getting statements from the complainants,” said Shamalla.
