Intermediate students of KVR Government Junior College for Girls in Kurnool staged a demonstration before the Collectorate on Thursday demanding drinking water facilities and sanction of classrooms and hostel buildings.
The girls students lamented that the existing classrooms and hostels were occupied by the degree college management and used for degree and postgraduate students.
As a result, classes were being conducted for them in verandahs and under the trees on the premises in summer and rainy seasons, where they had to suffer from ant bites.
The government junior college, instituted in 1958, was upgraded as a degree college and subsequently the composite college was divided into junior and degree colleges in 1996.
Owing to lack of hostel facilities, they were forced to stay outside in rented premises, which entailed additional expenditure, which several parents were unable to bear and forcing their daughters to drop out, KVR Government Junior College for Girls Welfare Association secretary S.A. Salam said.
