THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Democratic Youth Federation (DYFI) has decided to join hands with other youth organisations that uphold the Leftist thought and oppose Narendra Modi’s ‘autocratic’ policies, said DYFI All-India general secretary Abhoy Mukherjee here on Thursday. Mukherjee told reporters that further discussions on the matter would be held at the 10th All-India Conference of the DYFI to be held in Kochi from February 1 to 5. “Considering the growing incidence of violence against minorities, students and Dalits under the Narendra Modi Government, we believe the time has come for all Leftist forces to unite.

We are planning to strengthen the organisation by uniting 13 youth organisations that follow similar ideologies,” he said.DYFI All-India president M B Rajesh will inaugurate the All-India Conference by hoisting flag at Marine Drive at 6 pm on February 1. “A total of 750 delegates, representing DYFI workers from across the country, will participate in the Conference.

On February 3, foreign delegates will address the meeting, while a seminar against casteism will be organised on February 4,” he said. Prof Gopal Guru of the JNUDelhi; Radhika Vemula, mother of Rohit Vemula; and Rohit’s brother Raja Vemula will attend the seminar. The DYFI will also launch a programme to protect water resources in the state. The 2,247 DYFI units in the district will identify a water body and clean it. In Ernakulam, DYFI workers will remove plastic and other waste from Periyar on February 24.
