Jalandhar, January 19

Sangrur MP and AAP candidate from Jalalabad Bhagwant Mann said here today that if his party was voted to power, it would declare February 4 as Punjab’s “Independence Day’.

Addressing a public meeting at Rama Mandi in Jalandhar Central constituency, Mann said it (polling day) would be remembered as the day when the people of the state got freedom from a corrupt government, ‘chitta raj’, police atrocities and unemployment.

“We will ensure that the day is included in the syllabi of schools and colleges,” said Mann. Targeting Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, he said while the farmers of the state were committing suicide, the former BJP MP was busy minting money by ‘thoko taali’ in Mumbai. “What difference would he make by appearing a few days before the elections?” asked Mann.

On Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal’s claim that AAP was getting funds from terrorists’ organisations based in foreign countries, he said the baseless allegation showed that the Shiromani Akali Dal was getting the jitters.
