NEW DELHI: After Tilak Nagar MLA
Jarnail Singh was acquitted by a lower court,
Aam Aadmi Party asked former police commissioner B S
Bassi to apologise for having “indulged in politics”.
“The court found no merit in the case as
Delhi Police had nothing to substantiate its allegations against Singh. The court said without a complaint by a public servant the police did not have the power to register a case,” said
AAP’s Delhi unit convener Dilip Pandey.
Relating what happened the day the case was filed against him, Singh said the corporation was trying to break a building without requisite orders. He asked to see the demolition order when the police charged him with assault.
“The courts are gradually revealing the Gujarat model being followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by using police and other machinery against the people. All fake cases filed by the police against AAP MLAs are falling flat on its faces and one more case has been added to that list — Jarnail Singh. Now that even the court has thrown this case out, we would like to know from Bassi ji whether he will apologise for his statements made when Singh was arrested or not,” said Pandey.
