Leopard creates panic in Guptkashi

DEHRADUN: People of Basukedar tehsil in Guptkashi of Rudraprayag district these days are facing the challenge of leopard attacks. A leopard has preyed upon three livestock leading to fear among people in the region.

People of Basukedar tehsil in Guptkashi of Rudraprayag district these days are facing the challenge of leopard attacks. A leopard has preyed upon three livestock leading to fear among people in the region.

Harshila Devi, a local village representative, said the normal course of activities in the region had been adversely affected due to the prowling leopard. People were not venturing out of houses due to the fear of the leopard. They had requested the Forest Department to immediately install a cage in the village to trap the leopard.

Meanwhile, an injured leopard that was found in the Lal Tappar area of Dehradun district was taken to the Chidiyapur wild animals rescue centre in Haridwar. It was given treatment earlier also.

Incidents of leopards attacking villagers and their cattle have increased in recent times. Several man-eater leopards have been trapped and shot dead to free people of fear.
