Sramik League leader killed in accident
A Sramik League leader in Cox's Bazar was killed when a dumper hit his motorcycle at Kolatoli bypass in the district town yesterday.
Victim Khorshed Alam, 48, was labour affairs secretary of the district Sramik League.
The accident occurred at around 9:00am on Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway.
Quoting witnesses, district Sramik League General Secretary Shafiullah Ansari said the dumper hit Khorshed's motorcycle from behind in the bypass area when he was going to the district town. He fell on the road and the dumper ran over him. The driver of the dumper fled the spot.
After the accident, agitated leaders and workers of Sramik League put up a barricade on the highway, demanding arrest of the owner and the driver of the dumper.
Superintendent of Police in Cox's Bazar Iqbal Hossain and leaders of local political parties went to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. The mob lifted the barricade after the police officer assured the agitated people that the owner and the driver of the dumper would be arrested soon.
Police are patrolling the town to avert any untoward incident.
