Café Tacvba and La Santa Cecilia will kick off this year’s Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA exhibition series with a special celebratory concert taking place at the iconic Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 17. Cafeta and La Santa Cecilia will be joined by Chilean singer/songwriter Mon Laferte and other Latin acts.
The show will give way to the Getty Museum-funded festivities including other performances by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Natalia Lafourcade throughout the series, CDMX, a 10-day fest showcasing up-and-coming artists from Mexico City and a four-day Cuban music program at Los Angeles’ Music Center titled “Cuba: Antes, Ahora.”
“The first Pacific Standard Time featured an amazing diverse group of artists in one city — Los Angeles — in one short time span. Now we have all of these countries and time periods represented, and so much of it is intertwined with performing arts categories that we thought, ‘Let’s support a program of performance,'” Deborah Marrow, director of the Getty Foundation, said in a statement.
During the Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, the Mexican Institute of Sound will pay tribute to the Latin American composers of Hollywood with a special performance at the Getty Center and Chicano Batman will also perform at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where they will create an art piece inspired by the Mexican-American artist Carlos Almaraz.
