Joe Flacco supports return of Marty Mornhinweg as Ravens offensive coordinator

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti recently said one reason why he supports the return of often criticized offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is his quarterback seems happy about it.

On Thursday, Joe Flacco reiterated that endorsement in his first comments since the Ravens announced Mornhinweg would come back.

"Listen, me and Marty have a great working relationship and I think we’ll work together to get a lot of things done," Flacco told Baltimore's 98 Rock while promoting the Polar Bear Plunge charity event.

That relationship had some interesting moments last season after Mornhinweg was promoted from quarterbacks coach to coordinator in Week 6. In November, Flacco vented his frustration with the offense, saying the offense was "conservative" -- a word that didn't sit well with Mornhinweg. Flacco later said he had a "little funny conversation" with Mornhinweg about that.

In 11 games under Mornhinweg, Flacco ranked No. 22 in passer rating (85.2) with 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His 3,035 yards passing were eighth-best in the league over that span, but his 6.66 yards per attempt were 26th.

"I think the other thing you have to realize is that a lot of what we’ve been doing isn’t necessarily his offense," Flacco said. "So, I think this offseason will be a big point for him to get a lot of the stuff that he’s comfortable running. He and I can work through that stuff together. I think that’s the biggest thing."

Head coach John Harbaugh's decision to keep Mornhinweg was among the biggest surprises to start the offseason. The Ravens ranked in the bottom half of the NFL in rushing (29th), third-down efficiency (21st), red-zone efficiency (19th) and scoring (18th) after Mornhinweg took over for Marc Trestman.
