Battleground Punjab: In Lambi assembly seat, a triangular fight - Parkash Singh Badal vs Amarinder Singh vs Jarnail Singh

Lambi, Jan 19: Lambi constituency, the home turf of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has turned into battle of heavyweights in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections after Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh declared that he will be contesting from Lambi seat against Parkash Singh Badal.  The constituency is now witnessing a triangular battlefield between Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress.

In the upcoming Punjab assembly elections, the SAD leader will be contesting from his traditional Lambi seat against Captain Amarinder Singh from Congress and Jarnail Singh from AAP.

Captain Amarinder Singh has been criticising Parkash Singh Badal and has accused Badal to “completely ruin Punjab.” Captain Amarinder Singh has accused Badal for all the misdeed in Punjab and also stated that if voted to power, he will send the SAD chief to jail. “I will teach the Badals a lesson for all their crimes and misdeeds. I will get all cases of sacrilege investigated, and if they (Badals) are found guilty, I will throw them into jail,” he stated. ” I will cook Badal’s goose on his home turf,” a confident Capt. Amarinder Singh stated  after filing his nomination for the Lambi seat.

On the other hand, AAP has fielded Jarnail Singh to contest against the two heavyweights in the Lambi constituency. After Capt. Amarinder Singh declared that he will be contesting from Lambi constituency, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal accused that there has been a “deal” between Parkash Singh Badal and Amarinder Singh and so the Congress leader had announced his candidature from Lambi so as to cut anti-Akali votes and thus help Badal win.

“Once everyone realized that Jarnail Singh’s campaign was going great, Badal requested Amarinder Singh to contest from Lambi too so that the anti-Akali votes get divided,” he said. Jarnail Singh is a former Delhi legislator from Rajouri Garden had also unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from West Delhi on party ticket.

Parkash Singh Badal is a four time MLA from Lambi constituency and he has been winning from the seat since 1997. Considered as his traditional seat,  Parkash Singh Badal regained his seat in the 2012 assembly election by defeating Maheshinder Singh Badal of Congress by a margin of 24,739 votes.

Lambi is one of the 117 assembly constituencies of Punjab and it is located in Muktsar district. Lambi assembly has a total of 1,55,556 voters. After Captain Amarinder Singh has declared that he will be contesting from the seat, the seat is considered to be the ‘father of all seats’ in the upcoming Punjab assembly elections.
