Rivaldo: Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho 'would be good for Barcelona'

Brazil legend Rivaldo has told Sky Sports that Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho could follow in his footsteps by moving to Barcelona at some point in the future.

Rivaldo, who was crowned Ballon d'Or winner in 1999, played five seasons for the Spanish giants between 1997 and 2002, winning two La Liga titles.

Coutinho, 24, has continued to be linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months, having established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.

Rivaldo believes a move to Catalonia to play alongside Brazil teammate and good friend Neymar is a natural step in the future for Coutinho.

"In my opinion, he's a great player and a player who knows Neymar well. I think they are both friends -- players who stand out," Rivaldo said.

"I think that this transfer might happen because Barcelona is always going to attract the best, isn't it?

"He is one of the players who stands out and I believe that this transfer -- if he goes to Barcelona -- would be a good thing for Barcelona for sure.

"He is a player who would definitely help Barcelona. Of course, Barcelona is a big club, but with a player like him, it would definitely be a big help."

Coutinho continued his comeback from ankle ligament damage with a 65-minute outing in the 1-0 win against Plymouth Argyle in Wednesday night's FA Cup third round replay at Home Park.

The playmaker provided the assist for Lucas Levia's first goal since September 2010 from a corner kick before he was replaced by debutant Harry Wilson.
