Harshvardhan Kapoor sulks about Filmfare Best Debut to Diljit Dosanjh, gets mocked by Executive Editor Anuradha Chaudhary on Twitter!

Harshvardhan Kapoor expressed his displeasure to a publication about not winning the Filmfare Best Debut (Male) award and got an apt reply from Filmfare Executive Editor Anuradha Chaudhary.

Neerja actress Sonam Kapoor’s brother Harshvardhan Kapoor made his debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya in 2016. The film was a big time failure at the box office and neither were the debut stars Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyyami Kher praised for their work, although they won a few awards. Even then, the 26-year-old actor son of veteran Anil Kapoor was expecting an award at the Filmfare Awards 2017 which took place recently. Harshvardhan was taken aback when the Best Debut (Male) trophy at the Filmfare Awards 2017 went to Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh for Udta Punjab. This news did not go down well with Harshvardhan and in an interview to Mid-Day, he lashed out at Filmfare for giving the award to Diljit Dosanjh.

The actor further expressed his displeasure and told the publication, “Although I picked up two debutant awards earlier, I was really looking forward to winning the black lady. But I guess every awards event has its own parameters. I’ll be honest, though. I think a debutant award is meant for someone working on his first film. It shouldn’t go to an actor who has worked in several films in another industry or language.” Harshvardhan Kapoor has now been lamented by Filmfare Executive Editor Anuradha Chaudhary on Twitter, without naming him. She said on Twitter, “The sense of self entitlement some of these newcomer actors have is beyond imagination. If only they were half as talented.” And he has replied, challenging her to name him!

Diljit Dosanjh is a much loved Punjabi actor-singer, who has also worked in the Jatt and Juliet franchise. Harshvardhan Kapoor explained why Diljit Dosanjh should not have won the Best Debut (Male) Award at Filmfare. “For instance, if Leonardo DiCaprio works in a Hindi film, is he making an acting debut? He has already worked in so many Hollywood movies.” He added, “I won every award except Filmfare. You don’t know what kind of goes into it. Some awards have a jury and they decide. Some have a popular vote. So I don’t know how they decided this year. I think debutant awards should be for people who are relatively new to films. I have done less work. Otherwise, it is like saying I have done 100 English films and now I am doing a Hindi film so I am a debutant. So if Leonardo Di Caprio wins an Oscar and then comes to do a Bollywood movie, he is a debutant which is not something I agree with.”

Harshvardhan further said, “I have Bhavesh Joshi and a biopic on which I will start work from December this year. As you grow, you keep working on your craft and keep getting better as an actor. But at the end of the day if people don’t connect with the narrative of the story it, people will feel your performance isn’t as good as you think it is. In terms of myself, I have reseen Mirzya several times and there is not a moment that I can change about that film. Now when Bhavesh Joshi comes out, people may connect with it more because it is more relatable so people may think that is a better performance but that may not be the case. So it is all subjective. Yes, I was disappointed to not have won but I will be back.”
