VARANASI: Nobel laureate and child rights activist,
Kailash Satyarthi called for stricter laws against child trafficking to curb the social evil. Satyarthi was in Varanasi to deliver
Banaras Hindu University's centennial lecture on Wednesday , In an interaction with media persons, Satyarthi said, “We do have Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which aims to protect children from sexual assault and sexual harassment but sadly , it does not get properly implemented.
Surprisingly , in the last four years (till 2015), a mere 2% have been convicted. We have taken note of it and are demanding for a stringent anti-human trafficking law in both
Lok Sabha and
Rajya Sabha.“
Rehabilitating the children rescued from slavery have been a major challenge but both state and central governments have come up with various schemes and follow-up is also being done, he said.
