Jan. 18 (UPI) -- The defense formerly known as the 'Legion of Boom' eventually withered from Matt Ryan's flaming arm in the NFC playoffs.

That was, in part, due to several glaring injuries. On Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks looked to add depth to its secondary by signing veteran cornerback Perris Cox, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The Tennessee Titans cut Cox in November.

Seahawks cornerback DeShawn Shead suffered a non-contact knee injury in the team's divisional-round loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The Seahawks No. 2 cornerback will likely miss extended time with what has been reported as a torn ACL. He should undergo surgery this offseason and will likely start training camp on the PUP list.

"Yeah, that's a significant injury, you know," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters Wednesday. "For a guy out there on the edge, you know, to have your legs...you've got to have them," Carroll said this week. "It's going to be all the way until next season before he really gets to start seeing how far along he is and if he can come back."

"So we have to think like we got to pull from the ranks of the guys and see how they do."

Shead, 28, is a restricted free agent. He had 81 tackles and an interception in 15 games.

Cox, 30, struggled all season long, routinely getting burnt for big plays. He had 42 tackles and three interceptions in 2016. He played for the Seahawks for two games in 2013, before joining the San Francisco 49ers.
