The Kempsey Bulk Health Foods owner said her Smith Street store has experienced it’s busiest Christmas yet.
“It’s really picked up for us this Christmas – there’s no comparison to last year,” Mrs Cunliffe said.
“People are starting to mingle around the street because of the improved conditions. The whole street is more conducive to al fresco dining, which is great for us. We’ve also put a lot of effort into our cafe.”
Macleay Valley Business Chamber President Gary Scott said he had heard positive post-Christmas reports from business owners.
“Business people have been surprised by how well they’ve done over Christmas,” he said. “You only have to look at the amount of traffic in the town to see there are plenty of tourists around.”
“There’s definitely an upward trend happening and things are set to get better as new businesses come to take up the empty shop spaces in town.”
