ROURKELA: Tension prevailed on the premises of Government-run SK DAV Government Polytechnic institute here on Wednesday after a girl student misbehaved with a lady lecturer. Soon after, a group of students detained her and locked the main gate asking her to apologise the teacher.
Sources said, campus selection was in progress at SK DAV, a co-education diploma engineering college at Basanti Colony, when around 4 pm Priti Pradhan, a sixth semester student of electronics picked up a fight with lecturer Priti Pradhan Minz and allegedly misbehaved her.
Taking offence to Pradhan’s act, third year students demanded that she apologise to the teacher, but the student refused to do so. Later, her father reached the college which further aggravated the situation. The protesting students locked the campus gate and all the students were detained inside, while some aggrieved parents gathered outside the campus.
DSP RK Panigrahi and Uditnagar IIC PK Das reached the campus and after much persuasion normalcy was restored by about 8 pm. In-charge Principal Rinata Das said, appropriate action would be taken against the accused student after consulting higher authorities.
