Amend law for Jallikattu, Sasikala urges Centre

CHENNAI: The AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala on Wednesday urged the Centre to bring in necessary amendments to the relevant law to enable holding Jallikattu so that the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s wish could be fulfilled.

In a statement here, she said, “Both the Houses of Parliament, which had effected many an amendment, modifications and fresh propositions to the Constitution, should bring in an amendment so that Jallikattu can be restored. This was the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s wish. To fulfill her wish, necessary action must be expedited.” She added that she was making the appeal on behalf of her party, State government and the protesters.

The AIADMK general secretary said her party MPs will  meet the President and the Prime Minister to prevail upon them for taking steps to lift the ban on Jallikattu.
Sasikala said her party will press for adopting a unanimous resolution in the Assembly calling for lifting the ban on Jallikattu when the House meets for the year’s first session.
