Faridkot, January 18

SAD candidate from Faridkot Parambans Singh 'Bunty' Romana will have to face his namesake this election. Bunty (26) of Machaki Kalan village of Faridkot has filed the nomination papers as an Independent candidate from this seat. This Independent candidate has Rs 8,000 and a motorcycle as his and his spouse's assets. To end confusion, the EC has decided to paste the photo of each contestant next to his or her poll symbol on the EVMs, said Electoral Officer MS Jaggi.

Jalandhar: Even as sitting MLA Navtej Singh Cheema filed papers as a Congress nominee from Sultanpur Lodhi yesterday, his namesake filed his papers as an Independent candidate today from the same seat. The Congress MLA said his new namesake was a resident of Jalandhar and had been especially roped in by his Akali rival to create a confusion among the voters and affect his prospects. The Independent candidate is the third Cheema to contest from the seat where AAP’s Sajjan Singh Cheema is already in the fray.
