Lawyers vandalised a court room in Chittagong on Wednesday after a magistrate rejected the bail petition for a fellow and his wife who were arrested in a human trafficking case.
Patenga police arrested Jamal Uddin and his wife on Tuesday and produced them before the court of Chittagong additional metropolitan magistrate Shahadat Hossain Bhuiyan on Wednesday afternoon, seeking a five-day remand.
Some lawyers had filed a bail petition for the couple, which the court rejected, prompting the agitated lawyers to go on berserk in the court room.
Chittagong District Bar Association general secretary SM Jahed Biru said the lawyers filed another bail petition for the lawyer and his wife with chief metropolitan magistrate after the incident.
The petition was referred to the court of magistrate Masud Parves, who granted the bail to the couple.
The lawyers denied their involvement in the vandalism.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) Nirmalendu Bikash Chakrabarti, however, said there were none but lawyers in the court room during the vandalising.
He said a window and a glass of the court room were smashed.
