DEHRADUN: Dehradun nagar nigam’s 67 garbage collection vehicles will now be fitted with GPS trackers that will enable officials to find out the exact location of the trucks. The GPS system will be linked to an app called ‘Track’, which the nigam launched recently. According to officials, the app is still being enhanced, but once active, will ensure better garbage collection service in the city.
“Though, the app can be downloaded by anyone, it is essentially developed for official use and is password protected.
We will just set the routes for all the vehicles and monitor its whereabouts in just a click. The decision to develop such an app was taken after we received complaints about some drivers that they were driving the vehicles to areas outside the nigam’s limits,” said nigam commissioner Ravneet Cheema.
This is the second app launched by nigam. Previously, they had initiated a mobile application through which residents could apply for birth/death certificates by filling the request form. People can also receive details about hospitals, schools and hotels in the city. One could also track the status of their requests through the app.
