Harley Quinn will soon have a role in Gotham—or a Harley Quinn “precursor” will, anyway.

Speaking to TV Guide, Gotham executive producer John Stephens said the show’s Harley Quinn precursor “might” be introduced in episode 22, season 3. This will act as a “launching point” for the main plot of season 4, airing this fall.

Harley Quinn is a massively popular character, so it’s not surprising to hear she’ll probably appear in Gotham. The question is, does “precursor” mean we’re going to meet Harleen Quinzel before her transformation into Harley Quinn, or will this be another character entirely? Will she be more like Gotham‘s Jerome, whose Joker-like role is still kind of ambiguous?

Or, as some fan theories suggest, is Gotham‘s version of Harley Quinn already in the show, going by the name of Barbara Gordon?

Since no casting announcements have been made regarding Gotham‘s third season finale, fans may have to wait until June to find out.
